Yes, the newest Sonic game is out, and its edgy. And a bit fun. And if you pre-ordered it, you got a Shadow beanie cap.
Well everything you thought Shadow would have, does. You do everything you did in Sonic Adventure 2 plus shoot. But what you did in Sonic Adventure 2 with the B Button, you do now with the X button, this takes getting used to but will be OK after a bit of practice. The Hero and Dark stuff is back and depending what you do builds a certain meter, when the Hero one is full you can do Chaos Control, making you able to skip a chunk of a level, and if the Dark meter is full its Chaos Blast, which kills everything in a good radius. Running felt weird at first, Shadow has jet propelled sneakers, try stopping with those. Hard. You get used to it, and getting hit. Don't worry though! You only lose 10 rings at a time! That makes it equalize that. Now-a-days, action games need vehicles and this is no exception, there are a few vehicles in this game.
The story is decent, Shadow forgot everything, only a faint memory of Maria's death is left. Well Shadow is interrupted over a group of aliens that kills everything in their site. And the Government sends out their GUN(Guardian Units of Nations for those who never knew). Well most of GUN are now just humans. Well when you start off(and thought the most of it), both GUN and the Black Arms aliens are the enemies, you can kill them both. Instead of Emblems, now it has multiple missions at the same time and the first you complete will be the goal. For example you can kill all humans, kill all the aliens for just go to the Chaos Emerald and when you do one of those you complete the stage. But that's not all! Depending on what you complete tells you what stage you do next. They are 22 levels and multiple endings. Levels are very good, taking the best of the 3D Sonics and putting them to use. When you do stages you are escorted by a character. Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Rouge, Vector, Charmy, Espio, Eggman and members the Black Arms. They basically just talk, give hints and once in a blue moon, attack. They are the ones who give you the mission.
How are the graphics? They suck. Worse than Heroes. Worse than Sonic Adventure DX. Hell, if I popped in Adventure 2 for the Dreamcast for a few minutes, it might even be worse than that. The scenes before the levels shows the extremely low polygons used. This is what happens when a PS2 version of a Sonic game gets made, the GameCube version has to suffer too! And reviews say the framerate holds well for the GCN version, but the PS2 is a whole other story. See my opinion is that I would love to damn anyone who decided that the PS2 and Xbox (and any console by Sony and Microsoft, and I'll add compatibility to the Sony Vio for their PC games... which suck anyway) was a good idea to develop Sonic games straight to hell in a handbasket with a GameCube in the right hand and a DS in the left and my boot up their ass. That's not the Nintendo fanboy in me this time either, it's the Sonic(Tails I should say) fanboy in me. The cut scene in the beginning was great, though. If that counts for anything....
Now everyone is asking me about this and yes the Sonic X voices do their voices and it sounds great, ESPECIALLY EGGMAN, the Sonic X Eggman just makes the game feel so much better, his voice was made for this. And Mr. Stuart's voice are the GUN soldiers. The levels music are great, think Shadow's SA2's levels and you got the music. and I Am, the theme song shows once more that Crush 40 dominates in Sonic music.
Before this game came out, Yuji Naka neither confirmed or denied being involved in this game, then I beat the neutral storyline and in the credits I see Producer: Yuji Naka.
Here's something that bothers me cause it's a Sonic game, it has language. Only hell and damn, but it shocked me. Shadow says dammit every time hes hit, and damn when he dies. Knuckles said it too.
Well, it beats the hell outta Heroes so it gets my vote. I was very skeptic, and I doubted this game. But in the end of the day, its truly solid. This game is recommended by me and it's unique. I wonder if this will be the direction of Sonic cause if it is, then it will get boring but if it's a one time thing, I'll be happy. I can't see new Sonic fans emerging by this game, but I can see fans skipping this due to the edgyness.
IGN gave this a 4.9 so I know the press won't be OK with this game.I went to GameSpot and read a few reviews and I had to average the extremely good and bad reviews so I signed up and put an edited version of this review on it.
I was waiting SO much to do this review for this board and I feel so much better and I'll end with this: After playing the game, I ask why the hell is this rated E10+?
