Yes, Sonic Advance 3 has been annouced. I hope this info, that I scrounged up will make you happy for now!
SEGA AND THQ CO-PUBLISHING DEAL FOR GBA
Sonic spin-offs plus Shining Soul and Force to be co-published by THQ
17:06 THQ have signed a deal with Sega to co-publish some of their biggest titles on the GBA throughout Europe and Australia. The games included in the deal are Sonic Battle, Sonic Advance 3, and Sonic Pinball Party, which will be the first game to arrive later this year.
Other titles included in the new deal include RPG faves Shining Soul II and Shining Force. THQ already co-publishes Sega titles on GBA in the US, so this deal is an extension of its current partnership.
Reasons for the move? We'd guess that Sega is looking to improve upon its previous GBA sales in the European market. Tim Walsh, senior vice president of International Publishing at THQ commented: "Our two Sonic-branded releases, Sonic Advance and Sonic Advance 2, enjoyed sales of more than one million units at retail in North America."
Enter Mike Sherlock, executive vice president, Sales & Marketing, SEGA Europe. Sherlock commented: "Using THQ's unparalleled know-how with the GBA platform will help us to reach our long-term goals in the shortest amount of time."
In other words, it's all about the Benjamins, baby. Despite being the second best seller on the GBA in the UK this year, Sega's Sonic 2 had sold only around 30,000 copies in the UK by early August. Evidently Sega wants to see rather heftier sales in the future, and figures that THQ has got the marketing know-how to make it happen.
Despite the GBA's popularity, actual game sales on the GBA aren't all they could be. It'll be interesting to see if THQ's influence can fire up the market...
