I just started playing with a free 3D graphics engine, Panda3D, and saw a familiar face in its free models section under "Humanoids." Unfortunately it doesn't look like a very good model, and it's jetboard-equipped. In searching for a better one I found this, which looks like a chibi-style one, maybe based on the early games, and this, which is apparently based on the Sonic Heroes model -- but I don't see a download for the model itself, just a taunt of a screenshot.

I don't think so. Cinema 4D looks like it's for rendering high-quality graphics for canned animations, eg. for television, while Panda3D is a project by Carnegie Mellon University to make a usable 3D game engine.
