70 Stars in Galaxy, haven't beaten yet, savoring the game, havent even touched the final places yet.
But wow what a deal, buy two Wii games get one free at Toys R Us this week! I apologize, I first thought this was a Black Friday deal but it ended tonite, it was Mon-Wed. I just knew an hour before they closed. luckily a ton of Wii games came out today. I got Soulcalibur Legends, Ghost Squad and Trauma Center: New Blood there. I also bought Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles and the Wii Zapper w/ Link's Crossbow Training earlier. All those for Wii as well as Time Crisis 4 for PS3. If you havent noticed:
1: That's a lot of games.
2: 4 out of 6 were light gun shooters
I'm a fan of the genre and glad the Wii is getting a ton of them, as well as House of the Dead 2 & 3 this spring. As well as a new PS3 game finally. This officially makes my Wii collection bigger than my 360 collection. That surprised me.
Lemme review the games I tried out real quick. This is me just getting my feet wet, so let's see how these games made a first impression.
Wii Zapper:
Seriously, if Link's Crossbow Training was not bundled with this thing, I wouldn't have bought this. It was a nice gimmick and works well with Ghost Squad, but most games like Crossbow Training and Umbrella Chronicles work far more accurate without the Zapper. Not only that, they upped the price to $25 instead of $20.
Link's Crossbow Training:
Awesome: It really trains you to use the Zapper to it's full potential, ironically it's better with only the Remote and Nunchuk. Use the Twilight engine so it looks great and you can shoot Gorons in the junk. Wish it was longer and more stages where you can manually move around (felt like a simplified Resident Evil 4:Wii Edition).
Time Crisis 4:
I love the Arcade version. Not really the PS3 version. The new FPS mode was kinda cool, but very tamed compared to the Wii shooters you see. Walking is wicked slow too. Compared to the Wii shooters out there like Medal of Honor Heroes 2 and Metroid, not really intuitive. Also doesn't even touch the PS3's capabilities. What's even worse is that it's $90 and delivers worse than the $50 Wii games out there, but I'm a Time Crisis fan. The Guncon 3 is pretty cool, feels good, even without recoil like the Arcade(which home console light gun games REALLY need). And its the only light gun(save the Wii) that works on HD sets, which sadly the Guncon 2 and its cool Time Crisis 2 and 3 won't work on. Had it's own sensors (that's why it works on HD sets). It's an eyesore of a sensor system too. Two big sensors that hang from the front of you TV with weights hanging on the other side. Basically, only get if you're a diehard light gun fan with a PS3, which ain't talking to much.
Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles:
Not the best light gun game out there, but fun enough to own. Not only that, if you're a fan, you need this game cause it covers the story behind the scenes of Resident Evil Zero and One(I think 2 and 3 also, but not totally sure). A solid Wii game overall. Coulda been prettier, but nothing that'll make you cringe. Kicks the hell outta the asstastic Dead Aim.
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune:
Surprise here! Another PS3 game! I rented this and I want it. It's great. Beautiful game that controls smooth. It's basically Tomb Raider with platforming with a stable framerate, unlike the latest 2 of Lara's quests on 360 and Wii. Better action than Tomb Raider too, It felt familiar to Gears of War with a few tweaks and a looser camera. Mix it with memorable cast with perfect voice acting and personality, this joins the elites of the PS3 games. Ripping off achievements felt corny though and I hate Jak & Daxter, and this came from the same team, so I wasn't feeling it at first.
Soulcalibur Legends:
Soulcalibur "yes it's one word now" Legends looks like a dated PS2 game, this game needs a graphical facelift. Also this game needs a better button mapping. The best setting is Type 3 with Lock on to hold. Need to take notes from Zelda with lockons, and some controls, the nunchuk's motion shouldn't been used for dodging. It's a button masher with no buttons to mash, so it's basically a waggler. And it feels like they wanted to make an action game to compete with the other fighters like Ninja Gaiden is to Dead or Alive. It also has a crappy spine.
But....
This game is badass! The motion controls with the remote are surprisingly solid, the way you swing effects gameplay, it takes hack and slashes and makes it easier to dish attacks without taking away its complexity. The hand drawn cutscenes may be a bit cheaper, but it looks cool, but bogged down with the plain cutscenes in between with no voice acting. And Lloyd from Symphonia is playable!
In conclusion for Legends: There are better games on Wii; Zelda, Mario Galaxy and Resident Evil 4 to name a few, but it's a solid action game that uses a big license. Recommended for Soulcalibur fans and Wii fans just wanting to screw around with the motion controls in a good action game.
I haven't touched Trauma Center yet, I hope it plays better than Second Opinion, whose sensitive controls couldn't coincide with the already hard missions.
Ghost Squad I only played in Arcades and it was excellent and its shooting was mixed with other missions like de-arming bombs, so there was variety that was unknown in light gun games. What I see is that it's solid on Wii, the best with the Zapper(it feels more like the arcade with that diesel gun the arcade, lots to unlock and only $30. Looks dated, but one of the bests in light guns today, arcade or console. Lack of widescreen for the Wii version shows its date though.
Sorry for not posting, I'm recovering from what was the worst cold I ever had.
Also, NiGHTS Into Dreams is getting remade on PS2.
