Well until then I just tried out Mortal Kombat Armageddon for the Wii. I've been in the need of a new fighting game too.
Few things I'd like to say before actually hitting the game itself. I'm glad they kept the box art shiny like the PS2 and Xbox versions and the disk's design is probably the best one I've seen in a long time (Since Zelda: Ocarina of Time/ Master Quest).
I'm not a MK fan whatsoever and this is my first time picking up one. Now Midway wants it to appeal to people who played and never played MK before. Unfortunately, with a total backstory on it and 60+ characters to learn about, I'm a little intimidated. Don't get me wrong, having that many characters and modes is awesome! The modes are awesome and Midway even gave you some tutorials on this.
It really seemed that Midway had fun making the Wii version, and I support them on this. The control scheme gets a lot getting used to (even if you already played this game), to the point that masters in fighting games are totally green when they play this version. In the end though and when you get good, this will be the definitive version. And if you still suck, you can use the Classic controller or GameCube Controller, which is a bonus. One thing really pissed me off in this game is that there was no moveset on fatalities. Instead, Midway wanted you to learn for yourself, meaning I had to flail my arms around wasting time on the time bar, resulting in no attack at all. If there was a moveset, it would have been more fun.
Unfortunately, because of Nintendo, no online is in the game and Midway was forced to scrap it. But Midway did what was needed to make this fun. This is the best 3D MK game made and Midway did a great job translating to the Wii. This starts the awesome Wiimakes that we'll see soon. Scarface and Resident Evil 4 look to follow on what Midway did with MK and make the Wii version the best.
