Got this game recently ^^ Needless to say, i've been playing the hell out of it. Its the same as the Yu-Gi-Oh tournaments games, but more school based. (I know, master of the obvious) Reshef of Destruction (for the unfortunate ones that played it) is crappy and this does things right.
Now theres more battle animations during the actual gameplay for the events:
-Opponent Direct Atacks you
-Direct attacking opponent at the same time as finishing them off
Theres talk/smack talk on a new event:
-Opponent draws a card
-Opponent plays trap
-Opponent plays spells
-Opponent gets a loved card beaten down (Jayden: ...I'm sorry Elemental Hero Sparkman...)
-Opponent takes a direct attack when their life points are 3000 or less.
The PDA system I think is new.... its basically a cellphone, and friends call you on it or you can call friends to set up matches or talk. (havent tried it.... I just wander and beatdown)
You hafta go to school, so somedays, you cant wander.... but sometimes classroom events happen. Mainly just gossip, announcements, and more smack talk. Tests seem to come every two weeks, and this determines if you go up in dorm/rank, stabilize dorm/rank, or go down. Believe it or not the tests are quite hard. You really gotta know all cards.
Luckily they announce what type/category of cards to study ahead of time. That however is of little help at the actual test time... ; ; The test is broken into 3 parts:
1) Written test: They ask you 10 questions. Each question is multiple choice, and 3 choices. You have exactly 30 seconds to answer or you get it wrong.
2) Timed Test: You get one turn in a pre-arranged, timed duel. Finish off opponent in 1 turn of fail. You have 2+min to complete this.
3) Practical Test: Duel where you hafta use the theme of the test as much as possible PLUS you hafta win as quickly as possible.
The music is ok (not that I listen to it most of the time.... winamp) but the best track on the game is when youre losing the duel ^_^ an awesome track to inspire your counter and recovery.
You buy cards packs (no starters available anymore) from the store any time during the week using DPs like in older versions. But new packs come in every Tuesday. The store lady will declare if theres any 'special' packs available, so I suggest you stock up on em before the other duelists get there. Did I mention the store lady has cute hired help? ^^
During wandering, you choose locations from around the island, and most locations have multiple locations inside, so this allows for hidden events or choosing who to duel.
Some duelists get stronger or weaker after/during events. Bastion gets stronger the more you duel him (his deck changes overtime to take yours down). Syris gets stronger after he gets powerbond from his brother. etc etc
You can only duel those in your rank's league, even if you know you can beat them. Slifer Red can only duel fellow dorm-mates and RA yellows. RA yellows can duel anyone and get nicer dorms.
I started off easy enough, and got RA yellow same night due to my "Beatdown type Deck*" However, the test that came next was on spells. ; ; I passed the Written and Timed portion, but failed the practical. I had won the duel, but I used only 1 magic card during the duel. So I had my dorm repo'd and im back to Slifer Red.
(*mostly monsters and traps/spells geared on taking down opponent quickly through direct combat. No monsters can have lower than 1800ATK, evolution monsters must have 2300+ATK.)
oh, and heres som pics to follow my summary/review:
Alexis shows me why shes an upperclassmen
I show Alexis why its called a beatdown deck
Alexis annoys me with this card, then gets sad when I trample it ^^;; Im not too liked im guessing
Cute hired help ^^
If I just pwnd you Chazz, think that makes you "the wimp that can't win"
