Ever encountered those games inside games that were more fun than the actual game? I stopped playing FF8 just to play the card game. Evidently, I was able to get a near fully upgrade weapon for every character w/out leveling up much (not breaking lvl10) by doing so too.
How sweet was using that gunblade of mass destruction w/ thunder element on it against the spider machine on the SeeD test? Lets just say it cursed its programming for not being able to run, I pwnd it that hard. lol
The Final Fantasy series is well know for adding these to their games, but ive encountered these from outside titles as well. My best example would be Thousand Arms with its dating system.
Anyone else ever forego the plot for a game within a game? If so, what games?

Really there's a few that don't. From fishing in Ocarina of Time to pinball tables in Sonic Adventure to Blitzball in FFX and Chocobo Racing in FF VII. They are always great to have cause if it sucks, you can skip it and if it doesn't, it's like playing a new game.

I love FFX-2 the game, unlike what most people think about it, but its blitzball sucked, they shoulda kept FFX's. Its all according to preference, me thinks. FFX's version was more manly/realistic and you actually controlled the moves your team made. FFX-2s is based largely on stats AND (this is the part I hate) camera angle. Yes, I said it. Camera angle actually affects how your team plays. Its t3h sux0r. Still, I find the stat advantage a big help in the fact the opposing teams rarely level up if at all. Overhead: The game is played quickly and based totally on stats. The most fair way to go. Default: The game plays fairly on overhead mode but when it switches to visual, the game cheats by making your shooters always try and volley and enemy shooters always special shoot. Visual: The most enjoyable view to watch, but the game cheats hardcore. a lvl 5 ATK stat will somehow beatdown your lvl 99 Endurance stat'd shooter with an above 50% chance. Can you tell i'm pissed? Darn you Albhed Psyches >.< Just you wait til I get Tidus! But I will say That FFX-2 has the win for my vote since I have Yuna as a goalie and trying to get Tidus to be shooter. ^^ I wish I could've kept Rikku, Wakka, and Paine in my team, but in the end, they're just not the greatest. I'll settle for the Tidus as shooter and Yuna as goalie coupling though. :3

Hmm i liked kickin the ball at the dogs in Megaman legends, you could also kick the crap out of the dogs in town in that game come to think of it.Maybe someone on the staff hates dogs?Heh.Also if the tower of druaga mini game in tales of destiny 1 counts, then that too.Other than that i liked the chocobo hot and cold mini-game in ff9, as soon as you started treasure hunting out on the world map anyway, plus that ultimately led to your flying choco, and fighting ozma (shudders) but still was fun.
