As someone in the TAMB suggested, I finally went out there and bought a NGC (or whatever the hell the acronym is).
It took me a while, since the console is almost extinct over here (Hehe!), but I found one and managed to dig out a copy of SA2:Battle. Bought them both.
There are LOADS of differences between the GameCube and Dreamcast versions. Not all of them are good either
There's a lot more eyecandy. A whole load of superfluous rubbish like cities in the background that shouldn't even be there, lots of those circular portals in Final Rush...
I noticed a few things, but I think I'm going mad, so can you guys help confirm this? As compared to the DC version:
Frame rate seems lower, but the game is sped up. Resulting in shaky looking graphics where the character's look ridiculously hyperactive. The graphics are becoming intensely jerky whenever I spin the camera.
Tails is MUCH easier to play as. Locking on is easier and that extra speed mentioned before REALLY helps.
The lip-synch is even WORSE in the GC version.
Woah, the game is so much easier... I wish I'd played the GC version first; the small differences in level design mean little 'life lines'. Also, how many times did they think you were gonna get HIT by KING BOOM BOO?!?! Only 8 rings in DC version, somewhere near 25 in GC?! Also, what's with the exclamation mark when knux/rouge is close to an emerald? That makes it much easier.
MY MISADVENTURES WITH THE CONTROLLER!!
I'm sorry GC fans, but the standard Gamecube controller is awful. Too small with an awkward design.
However, trying to run in a straight line in the DC version was an exercise in futility. With the GC's controls it's much easier.
I bought the console second hand (it SEEMS to work...) and the controller is doing weird things. Is it normal for a single button press to result in a homing attack? I've been killed 8 times by that...
It's making it REALLY hard to play this game, because I'm too scared to jump. I tried to take my fave little shortcut in Metal Harbor and found myself at the bottom of the harbor...
Oh also, Sonic Gems IS coming out on PS2... in Australia for $200!! A friend of mine has it already... for $32! Oh, how I loathe that guy...
Oh yeah, I love the menu themes in SA2:Battle. You had to download them for the Dreamcast, and I couldn't. No prizes for guessing what them I use
Just can't wait to try the multiplayer mode...
