I've been to so many forums in my life, and this one should be concidered lucky.... it lasted twice as long (if not that, thrice) as the average forum. The only other "private" forum to match that would be CBT, the forum of the clan I'm in (although the forum was relocated once). Recruting members is hard to do. Well, maybe not for a simple forum. But for a clan like CBT, bah... it's hard. Some people take clans as gropus of naughty people planning to do something wrong....

It's Too Good!

just as long as we post in it, it will not die, but getting talkative members are crucial, cause if they just register and dont talk, this board could soon burn down

Yea, there's too many of those. Sometime after New Years, I'll do them a favor and delete their names. Yes, a favor. How would you feel if you registered for the name Tails and your validation email never came because you mispelled your email or you used aol (parental controls, etc). *Gasp!* The name would be taken and you wouldn't be able to use the forgotten password feature either. I'll be removing those accounts so they have a second chance. More details are in the Newbie Guidelines. Don't worry, it only applies if you have 0 posts and a blank profile. If you filled out something in your profile, then you obviously got your password and shouldn't have any trouble.

what you guys have to understand is the member count is dangerusly low
it would not take much for the board to die

how bout this idea? once you register a name, you must log in AT LEAST ONCE within 12 or so hours, or the name is re-opened to the public?

how bout this idea? once you register a name, you must log in AT LEAST ONCE within 12 or so hours, or the name is re-opened to the public? No, setting any time limit like that would be really inconvenient. Things happen. For example, your internet could go down for awhile due to starting a new contract and you could be offline for a month or two, possibly a whole year. Or what your monitor dies? (Mine doesn't look too good, it sparks). With things like that taken into consideration, it makes you anxious to join something like freewebs that counts down the days, eagerly awaiting to terminate your account. I think karma systems such as the one used on Gamefaqs is also lame for those time based reasons. So circcumstances happen, and they have. That's why ShadowFan and many other members haven't been here as much as they used to. But Christmas break probably started for everyone by now and there's time to party without school getting in the way.

Freewebs will terminate your account if you don't login within a period of 2 months (and I don't think an active FTP usage will count either), It's not the worst I've seen, some places require you to update within 7 days or face immediate termination. The place I used to be at (before they got greedy and decided to charge $20 for their previously "free" accounts) required one visitor within 3 months, regardless of how often you're logged in. And as far as Tripod goes, they're too lazy to even check for any such activity (I don't think they even have some kind of thing like that).

LOL Megalo! You obviously know nothing about me.... I DO understand that a low number of members on a forum means less activity (well, in some cases... but not always), which means the forum has a possibility to die. But forums work much like the stock market does, it's always changing. Sometimes the members' activeness and the post count are high, other times it's quite low. For a forum to actually die, it needs to get extremly low and stay extremly low. The current number of active members on this site is fine by me. It's a comfortable amount, although a few more members wouldn't hurt. Good point, XFox. The time of year affects how often members are active. People are often busy during this time of year and have other things that need to get done. CBT's forum also took a beating, heh.
