Is there a way to make the backgrounds for my GIF files transparent that way when I put them places, like on my profile, they dont have a big white square around them? My avatar is a good example.

hmmm... well the easy way to do it is change the color of the background of your gif. Make it the same color as the message board. Sorry, I don't create gifs. I only do JPGs, but it should work out that way

(I dunno what M Chaos is talking about, but,) Sure, there should always be a way (as even MSPaint has one, though it can't edit animations). It just depends on your GIF editor. For example, in the GIMP (it's free), I believe you have to add an alpha channel, then erase all of the white. If you're not careful to make the appropriate adjustments though, you could end up with a buggy animation that leaves behind a sort of trail. Just tell me what your image editor is like, and maybe I can help you.

Ive been using MSPaint to edit my images, and some program called The Movies by Jansoft to animate them. I recently downloaded Gimp 2.2 but havent had time to figure it out yet.

There, that wasn't too hard. I opened the GIMP, opened your file, added an alpha channel ( Layer->Tr ansparency->Add Alpha C hannel) to the first layer, used the Contiguous Region tool (Z) to select the white (as well as some parts you left background-teal), and erased it (Ctrl-K, not Delete). I had to repeat this selecting and erasing for each layer. Finally, to prevent leaving a trail, I attached a "(replace)" function after the "(100ms)" on each frame after the first (but couldn't find a way to do it besides typing it in on each one ). Oh yeah, and Frame 10 had some white blur that I had to avoid erasing, so I carefully re-copied the sprite from the sprite sheet. [ Note: If you can't see it, then my host is having temporary difficulties. Either wait for the image and my signature to reappear, or ask for an e-mail.]

For all your Gif needs, look no further than "Animagic". It's a great program that XFox lent to me. In this program, you can open any type of file (even if it's not gif), and then click the "Choose Transparent Color" button and then just click a color in your picture that you want to be transparent. Then, any place where that color is on your picture will be transparent. Now just save it as a gif, and voila!... problem solved. Animagic is probably easier to use than Gimp... it just takes one click. EDIT: Here, I made your avatar transparent for you, Kit.

Hey, thanks alot Tails! Is Animagic freeware?... or should I go and pick it up at Best Buy or something.
Thanks for helping with the Avatar. I had one that I made transparent, but as you can see by the one you made, the picture I use is so grainy that it looks kind of wierd without a background.

I didn't pay a dime for Animagic, so I guess it's freeware. XFox just sent the program to me, so you'd be best off asking XFox where he got it from (or if he could send it to you). Yea, that picture was grainy. I spent some time trying to clean it up and trying to give it a solid background color. Oh well, atleast I tried.

Try saving the file as a .PNG
