So... Late last night, Halo 3: Recon was announced. When I first read the description off of Xbox.com, I honestly laughed. I actually thought they were joking... Then, I saw this post on HBO... which then linked to this trailer on Bungie.net... and then I realized, it's actually going to happen. So... you're an ODST, on a secret mission back on Earth, before the Master Chief's return to the planet in Halo 3... The game "will require you to employ more elements of stealth and cunning than ever before." ...What? Is it killing the series, like CNET said, or could this actually be a worthwhile addition to the Haloverse? Thoughts, anyone?

I'm thrilled to see it's a full blown game and not an online expansion. Bungie musta known that the biggest problem with Halo 2 and 3 was the lack of saving the earth itself, Chief always went elsewhere soon after the game started. More info landed at TGS:
* "It will be a standalone disc sold in stores in boxes next Fall. It's also going to include some multiplayer maps." * "It is a first-person shooter still ... It's not a squad-based shooter." * "As an ODST, compared to playing as in invulnerable Spartan, you are going to have to sort of pick and choose your encounters a little bit differently." * "It is going to very much feel like Halo. Full feature parity."
I'm glad to see spinoffs like this and Halo Wars, they look fun and breathes new life for a franchise, like Mario RPG did for the Mario series. I might enjoy this.
