Gah, I can't believe I'm posting about this game, I'll be honest, I never really liked a GTA game I played, but I thought I should share this ps3.ign.com/articles/869/869541p1.htmlYes...a 10.... Still, even after seeing this, I'm not really interested lol. At least fans of the series will get a great game, and my friend will most likely get it, so I'll get to see for myself if it's 10 worthy. And I'm sure Marik will tell us if it's worthy of that XD

WOW WTF! First it's in like 10 years, IGN gives out a 10 for a new game. I am so pissed. For the record, I f'n(believe me I'd f bomb all over this damn this post if I wanted but I won't) hate GTA as a franchise, sure I had a week with Vice City when it came out on Xbox, but the novelty wore off REAL quick. I hate the premise of killing for the sake of killing. The story was completely lackluster on Vice City. San Andreas I didn't even touch, nor will I ever, at least Vice City had the 80's feel in it, San Andreas in the 90's made it feel too real. This is in modern times, and in a New York style setting, so imagine someone killing at random in NYC, some dumbass gamer killing, shooting these people, as if it had no meaning. That's someone's mother, daughter, brother, sister, best friend gone at random. The scary thing is that millions of gamers people are buying this game FOR that reason. The reason I don't make threads on these damn games.
Let me calm down and be neutral on the subject instead of dumb ranting and I'm sorry on it, though will still post it. As someone who wants to be a part of this industry, I must keep a level head on this game. If you do buy it, I hope it's for it's excellent story that'll suck you in, or the way you're immersed in a free roaming realistic setting or the excellent online multiplayer. Bottom line, this game got a 10 for a reason, it was built fantastically. And in the end, there's no reason not to give a glance.
What saddens me though is this question, "Will the people who buy this game buy it for those reasons?" The answer's no. American gamers straight up, are freaking idiots. They want it so the can drive around, shoot people, run from cops and cause complete hell cause it's what we do. Mindless games sell. Where else can garbage like 50 Cent Bulletproof outsell masterpieces like Okami cause of the face of a bullet magnet rapper? Hell why does Carnival Games outsell Metroid Prime 3 and why intelligent games like Zack and Wiki fail? How anything with Mario's face on it have to sell over a million copies no matter how good(Mario platformers) or bad(Mario & Sonic Olympics) it is? How Orange Box can never be that top 8 million selling game, even though every little thing was excellent... Why we already know that GTA will be the top selling game AGAIN this generation. The PS2/Xbox/GCN generation was the worst one in quality cause games like GTA, Halo and Madden shaped the entire generation and what developers made. I hope you guys think about it and help shape this next generation to be a promising one.

Wow, exactly what I thought Marik. I've known people who completely skip over an epic single play to dedicate their whole time to the multiplayer, and people who think games Okami would be stupid because there is no gore. Unfortunately, people like us can't do much, but we can be happy when a great game comes a long that not a lot of people will play and support it, and maybe even try to spread it to our friends. I really did gasp when I saw that 10, but it wore off in a second, I will never, ever buy a GTA game.
Well, we can still enjoy the next gen even if there is going to be a flood of GTA clones, because hidden gems always come along.

Thank you. You just summed up my entire opinion of the Grand Theft Auto series and my opinion on American gaming in general. I honestly can't say anything worthwhile, Marik said it all already. But, I feel like ranting anyway. It really pisses me off that games like Halo get so much acclaim. People consistently say it's the best FPS ever made, when I think it's complete [censored]. Halo 1 was excellent. Halo 1 was a great game. Halo 2 and 3 both [censored] up the great storyline of the first, and even [censored] up the gameplay, making it far less fun than the first. Look at Half-Life. Half-Life has an incredible story, fun gameplay (Though not as fast-paced as Halo, in my opinion), the whole nine yards. Half-Life 2 was even better. But, will people ever rave about Half-Life? No. Even when it's infinitely better than what Halo could ever be. It's like Marik said, GTA, Halo, and Madden shaped the current generation. It's reasons why this why games like Shadow Hearts will always be in the backburner. Shadow Hearts and its sequel are some of the most emotional experiences I've ever had. It's so much more than just a video game. And it will never get the attention it deserves. Same for games like System Shock, Star Control II, Descent, PLANESCAPE TORMENT (The game's name isn't in caps, I'm just emphasizing how phenomenal a game it is), and so much more. [censored] GTA. I honestly can't believe people play this [censored], when [censored] like this is happening all the time! I really want to take some of my friends to the bad parts of New York, or Philadelphia, or Chicago, and tell them, "Welcome to Grand Theft Auto!" And I'll still expect them to say, "But it's only a GAME." Yeah, it may be a game. You may not actually be doing all the stuff you're doing in GTA, but this [censored] is going on IN REAL LIFE. What if your life was completely ruined by some [censored] who you would play as in GTA? [censored] like this happens all the [censored] time, open your [censored] eyes. People really piss me off. Sorry for pretty much reiterating what Marik said, but this rant has been a LONG time coming. Also, sorry for all the cursing, I tend to lose restraint when I'm angry like this.

I honestly don't understand why games like that even exist. For the most mindless game that i ever played was Star Fox, and that was so much fun. I don't like the shooting games or anything like them. I tried to play first person shooters, and the only one I ever liked was Turok for the N64, only because I got to play multiplayer with my brother and cousin. Plus all of the publicity that GTA 4 is getting is only going to drive sales. On the news for the past few days all they do is talk about GTA 4 and how its going to sell millions of copies. There was no such news when Super Smash Bros Brawl came out. And we all know that Brawl is senseless fighting, but it's okay because of how Nintendo made it. But brawl is fun and they are giving the Smash Bros series more of a storyline each game. Some of my favorite video games through my life I had to solve puzzles. The Lemmings, A Link To the Past, Ocarina of Time, Tales of Symphonia, Phoenix Wright. These games managed to wrack my brains growing up. I mean Phoenix Wright games stump me sometimes and I have to cheat by going online! You don't even want to know how many hours it took me to beat Tales of Symphonia the first time around. I can't really remember the Lemmings (Genesis) though, because I was too little, like THREE. Anyway, society has got it wrong. It IS all about saving the princess, how many times has Mario and Link done it? And its STILL amazing. I hate mindless games like that. I'd much rather attempt a Sodoku then play the GTA series.

I do have to admit playing GTA IV is that it is the best GTA yet, but the same shooting problems that I always thought it had remain, I also played the Free Mode with 5 other friends and after testing all types of vehicles, they all preform realistically. I personally have to say that it doesn't look like the best looking game on 360 (or PS3 either). I hope to test out Deathmatch online tonite.
The world is pretty expansive, but I also thought this was cool. Stand for a few minutes on the sidewalk and watch the world, I saw a woman driving and she stopped at a light looking at her mirror and a guy rear ends her. The guy gets out and checks on the woman he accidentally hit. Now that's attention to detail.
Using a cellphone or Internet (via your PC) to get missions, dates, or character development is a really cool idea, there are thousands of calls and thousands of different webpages to surf. These are some smart mechanics and hell, I give where credit's due on their end on this. I am also happy the game is toned down. It's more down to earth and you have to be legit for a good chunk.
In a night's play, it is enjoyable, no perfect 10 style game though.
