I bought Eternal Sonata, and was really anticipating it, well.... it seems my previous thoughts on this game totally changed. I really thought this was gonna be a really good game, but putting the game in and playing, I only think one thing.
This is the best RPG I played since Tales of Symphonia. That's a big statement, being that Symphonia is one of the best games I played...ever.
This game has done one thing that made my jaw drop at the FIRST MINUTE. The outstanding, ostentatious visuals. From the time that 360 turned on from the time I turned it off, I could not believe how beautiful this game is. The hand drawn characters, the lush environments, the beautiful lighting and particle effects, no words can show you the beauty this game brings. Games like Gears of War show the 360's power in one way, but Eternal Sonata does it in a whole new, and better light. Let it be noted that this the first game of mine to be played exclusively on my new HDTV and holy crap! High definition truly makes a difference. This is the best looking game I ever seen.
Innovative gameplay too. Using a turn based system, you have 5 seconds to attack, heal, use items, that sort of thing. Everything easily mapped to the 4 face buttons. What's really cool is that your special attack (mapped to Y) changes if you're in light or in shade creating a light or dark attack.
Story's unique's too. Frederic Chopin's on his death bed and he dreams up the world of Eternal Sonata. He apparently dreams so well, his view of dream and reality becomes vague.
This is what an Xbox platform needed for an RPG. It's a shame that it's going to the PS3 also.
