So in the last week Sega's been busy showing off some pretty good ideas. With the 2008 Olympic games license, they not only thought of dumping Sonic to make it popular, but got Nintendo and Shigeru Miyamoto to throw Mario in there. That was an eye opener for me, I was really shocked! It is reservable and I already reserved my copy. Then the #1 cult game and #1 game in demand for a sequel, NiGHTS will make its grand return on Wii. Another shocker(before the teaser stuff). So, how do I feel now that these two Wii games are announced. I really don't know. I have faith with Mario and Sonic, because Nintendo is involved and Sonic Team is NOT the developer. NiGHTS on the other hand..... With their history of broken controls(cause screwing up a two button control scheme is so hard) and faulty cameras, will one of Sonic Team's first 3D games a decade ago pull it off? I hope so, this is the first real must have third party game for the Wii. With Secret Rings leaving a bad taste after you get so far in, with Sonic on the 360/PS3 trash, the poorness of Shadow and Riders, the lameness of Heroes and Rivals and the steep difficulty with the Advance series, Sonic Team has not won me over. Phantasy Star Universe can somewhat tell me that they might pull it off since Sonic's name is not in it. Sega has had a handful of good comebacks too like Outrun 2, Jet Set Radio Future and Panzer Dragoon, but those again weren't Sonic Team's.
I look at the future for Wii and all the third party games coming out just feel to B-list(or gimmicky). Nice to see a lot at launch and Sonic in Feb, but I don't feel the Resident Evil, the Metal Gear Solid, the (real) Final Fantasy, the Wii has no hardcore third party games. The good thing is that I have never seen Nintendo pull SO much off in one year for one console. Their lineup is truely stunning. WarioWare, WiiPlay, Super Paper Mario, Mario Party 8, Big Brain Academy, Pokemon Battle Revolution, Super Mario Strikers, Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3, Fire Emblem, and Super Smash Bros. That is outstanding seeing what Nintendo did in years past with only a handful. Then their DS lineup is great so Nintendo has proven to me that they know their franchises, I just hjope they can keep it up in 2008, or else they're in trouble. I can prob see in 2008 that Mario Kart, Starfox, Mario Party 9, Animal Crossing,(all them online) and word on a new Zelda and/or Mario game will hopefully keep that going. I've really been back and forth with the system. Just that I never let go of my GameCube playing Melee, Tales of Symphonia, Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes, Soul Calibur 2, Wind Waker, and so much more that with the Wii, I just feel like turning on my 360 instead.
