In certain games there are books that give you skill experience just by studying them. Unfortunately my textbooks don't fit that category, but I did find one:
B.Z. Sandler. Creative Machine Design. Monograph published by Solomon Press Book Paragon House Publishers, 1985, 230 pages. It's available cheaply on Amazon, and probably other places. I found a copy by chance at a local fair.
It's got some equations that are over my head, but a lot of other ideas that get me thinking about everything in inventors' terms. How can you solve this problem? Can you "reverse the polarity" of something to get a different effect? Can you use the exhaust from something to power something else? Neat book.
(Come to think of it, there's also Nozaki's book on Japanese fox spirits, "Kitsune." I've only ever gotten access to one copy. If you can find it, get it!)
