When it comes to movies, two genres always sucker me away from games and in front of the TV: comedy and japanese films.
I've seen a lot of Samurai movies, some even about modern-day samurai. But just recently I was able to watch the classic of all the samurai films, "The Seven Samurai."
This movie was everything positive I heard and more. The characters were not all unique as I tended to confuse the two that looked alike, but after one died that squared me up so I no longer confused the two. >.> (hope I didnt majorly spoil anything...)
Its about a small village whos getting harassed by mountain bandits while the japanese armies are out fighting in a civil war. The peasants hire seven samurai for nothing more than 3 meals a day to help them finish off the bandits once and for all.
Though I at first expected a Dynasty Warriors rush in, and slash til your victim count is 50 times your age, it was really a drawn out strategic conflict with both sides steadily growing weaker and then a final blaze for the decisive battle.
Bittersweet describes the ending perfectly. But IMO, thats just a slice of truth right there.
I've also watched a lot of Zatoichi's stuff, the Trilogy of Miyomoto Musashi, Sanjuro, and Yojimbo. As for the modern-day samurai stuff, I've watched Ghost Dog, The Last Samurai, eh.... forgot the others. They tend to be less memorable than the old school japanese samurai films for me.

I love watching old samurai films. Usually, I get to see them early in the morning. Of course, I have to read the subtitles cause I have no idea what they're saying, but they're still fun to watch.
(this is off topic but I can't help but keep looking at it. Are you really like Seraphim, flawd-kun?)

Yeah, use to watch "samurai saturdays" on IFC, but recently classes haven't been going so hot this semester, and im always too busy w/ something to remember ; ; We can't be the only ones here who like Samurai films >.> If thats the case, I hearby give my permission to have all ninja, kung-fu, and chinese film lovers to come flame and debate why those movies are better than samurai films. Check the Megatokyo section ^^ posted link to test there. and as for if i'm like her, listen to this: I switched up my answers 3 times after being told I was Seraphim. o.o ....I still came up Seraphim lol not a bad thing, but a little variety would have been nice at that moment
