Old enough for us! If it isn't the modern system its scrap metal! Or... whatever it's made out of.
I've never played that game before. Then again, I've never played any Dreamcast games.

I sent my friend a long introduction to the game. I think I'll go dig it up and slap it in here. Hang on a tic... Here 'tis: Anyway, Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver is a game for the Sega (I think... ) Dreamcast, and it is a 'ing AWESOME game. Right about now, you're going to be treated to a long introduction of the game and a rant about how freakin' kick-arse it is. Basically, one plays a character, Raziel, who was a very high-ranking vampire until he dared to evolve before his master. He was gifted with wings, but Kain, ah, jealous Kain tore them to shreds and ordered him tossed into the water. Which burned horribly, seeing as how he's a vampire. >.> Not a weakness I'd give my vamps, but hey. So poor, poor, poor Raziel is endlessly tumbling through the waters, in constant, excrutiating (Parse that!) agony, and he completely loses all sense of time. Whee. He awakens, however, in a freakish, pulsating chamber, much changed (and centuries later. Ow. And I thought I was mean to my characters). He's lost his lower jaw, for one, which raises the question of how the freak he talks. Still. Anyway. Raziel has been selected by the Elder (I think it was called) to rid the land of his (Raziel's) brethren, for they are abominations, their very presence disrupting the normal flow of fate, for their souls can never be called back and rewoven into the threads of history. Elder-'dear' then proceeds to explain certain aspects of Raziel's new body. 1) Raziel no longer hungers for blood. Instead, he must devour the souls of either those he kills, humans, or random souls floating about on the Spectral plane. 2) ... .... .... Actually, that's it. Differences that are shown later are 2) when materialized on his original plane, he now constantly takes some damage, but can shift instantly to the Spectral plane to regain health. 3) he's much stronger than he was before. ... And again, that's pretty much it. I just started playing the friggin' game yesterday, give me a break! Anyway, for killing other vampires (pitiful, pitiful creatures. I laugh at them. Ha! Hahahahahaha! Hahahahahaaaa....), you must hack at them until they're in a state of stupor (which doesn't last long; they recover pretty friggin' quick) and either impale them with a pole arm yanked off a wall, set them on fire, throw them onto a spike in the wall, toss'em into sunlight, or toss'em into water. Whatever you do, y'gotta take their soul. A) It gives you more health. B) If you don't, they might turn into Vampire Wraiths on the Spectral plane, which are scary. O___O Um... Yeah. Wheee! Such a fun game. XD I personally favor impaling them with a pole arm; I haven't quite gotten the hang of chucking the things into or onto various objects yet. >.>; Although setting them on fire works if y've got a torch, but they run out after one or two burnings. Highly inefficient. =___=; Well, there's my rant. ... Except for the bit I forgot about Raziel's little dance-like maneuvers whenever he moves a box. Those are really funny. XD I make'im move boxes just to giggle happily at the silly things he does. It's fun. Very fun.I'd play it more, but I'm currently stuck, so. Blah.

Soul Reaver is a great game. I love impaling guys by chucking spears at them.

.... Demmit, double-post, but I have to know. Having resumed playing Soul Reaver today, I went to the cemetary in Melchiah's lands, and tried to find the Eldritch energy that's supposed to be there. I found it, but I thought there might be something else, and began wandering about. At some point whilst I was jumping, I... landed somewhere that was still the area, but there were no details. It was just a non-descript beige color with Raziel, his shadow, and the weapon I had with me. I shifted to the Spectral Plane to see if it would fix it, but, guess what? Not happening. All that THAT particular course of action did was turn everything teal. I was, however, able to locate a portal and shift back to the Material Plane. I got out by quitting the game and reloading it. I still dunno what the heck happened... Anyone? Ideas...?

It was a scary glitch. I thought I'd messed up the game! What other glitches are there?

You should. Especially if there isn't anything preventing you from doing so. *nods* ... I'm rather tempted to try'n find that glitch again...
Agk, now I want the soundtrack. The theme whilst fighting Melchiah was particularly effective; I was panicking far more than when I fight other bosses whilst battling him, and I'm pretty darn sure it was because of the music. *shivers* It's perfect for Halloween, tho'. *grins* Must buy!*schemes*

What about Blood Omen, the first one? It was overhead, a little like Zelda.

Only psone, i had it long ago.. it was alright, but as for playing it now, its only value(to me) is alot of the backstory value from before the other games. Of course i would re buy it instantly if people around here didnt charge so much for it new, knowing its become rare and all. heh

If anyone's played both Soul Reaver 1 and Blood Omen 1, would he/she mind offering a slight analysis on how they compare?

BloodOmen: Action/RPG
Soul Reaver: Action
Normally im an RPG person, but I side w/ Soul Reaver on this one. I normally like RPGs in which I relate to the hero in key similar ways. Sharing Raziels features and in agreement with a lot of his actions really helped me get into the drive to take Kain down.
But alas, I suck at action games and it went quite the opposite if I remember correctly lol It was a long battle of getting repeadiately knocked into the other realm. In short, he wiped the floor with me, got tired of it, and let me win to just end it.
Persistence wins again! No victory has ever seen such style! *wipes dirt off and picks gravel out of teeth*

Heee. I wasn't aware of games having such features programmed into them. Either way, I haven't played Soul Reaver in a while. T_T Oh, well. I also purchased a used copy of Blood Omen 2, and I still say Soul Reaver kicks its sorry arse.

I honestly prefer Raziel to Kain. Although I've only really played the first ten minutes of Blood Omen 2 as opposed to maybe 10 hours on Soul Reaver.

Didn't Blood Omen come out for the Saturn, too? Anyways, Soul Reaver rocks. You gotta love how intellectual the characters sound.

The Saturn? Que es?
The thing that really made Soul Reaver for me is the fact that Raziel actually expressed remorse and even something akin to horror at having killed Melchiah (I haven't gotten much farther... T_T). It wasn't something I was expecting, but it was a nice surprise. I was expecting the usual 'Screw them- they betrayed me/let me suffer/etc.' spiel.
