Well the biggest event in gaming is no longer the biggest event in gaming. The ESA is currently changing the way E3 works. Well it'll no longer be the mega game show of the year anymore. It'll just really be about the press conferences and individual meetings. No more big budget booths and everything that was fun about it. It'll also make other events more important like the Leipzig Game Convention, which takes place in Germany in late August, Tokyo Game Show in mid-September and the Game Developers Conference in March. If you ever wanted to visit E3,don't bother anymore, it isn't the same as it was a few months ago.
Microsoft, Sony and EA are all for the downsizing. They no longer need to spend a huge amount of money out of it. EA said something about E3 in July next year. So it might not be in its usual mid-May timeslot.
Oh one more thing, it's no longer called E3, it's now the E3Expo. Yes, Electronic Entertainment Expo... Expo.. That's not a typo. Idiots...
GameSpot actually figured that it'll hurt alot of economical sources in Los Angles now. Taxis and other uninvolved businesses in LA will be hurt by this. Take a few minutes and check them out. LA might fight this, they won't take it lying down.. most likely.

Well, a reason for it is that some game companies don't have enough money to make their game stand out and make their booth flashy enough so it can attract people. So the lil companies have a chance now, or they think.
UPDATE: In 2007, E3 becomes the "E3 Media Festival"(E3Expo for short i think) and will move its date from mid-May to sometime in July. The reason for this move in date is to allow game companies to present more finished products. And it might not be just games anymore.
The event will no longer be held at the Los Angeles Convention Center, but instead will take place inside conference rooms at "at least one" hotel in the city. And totally unfortunally, only 5,000 people will be on-hand at next year's event, way down from the 60,000-plus-size mob that stormed the expo this past May.
