The PS3 itself looks sweet. I agree with Marik, that controller looks really bad.

It looks amazing. I was actually watching G4 when they unveiled it too. I'm hoping to get one not too long after the launch.

I like the way it looks, but I wont' buy it. xD What's the point? My PS2 is still new. Besides, too complicated for my little brain to understand.

Well best to explain it is that after this is released, nothing new will come of the PS2 and we won't have a choice. It looks like a $500 launch. Killzone for the PS3 looks downright great!

The controller looks like your thyroid without the top tissue on it, or something else ( not saysing do to humanity) of another organ. that just creeps me out. like the look though, microsoft may lose this battle, that thing looks, as you said Marik, "sweet"

Ken Kuragi(Sony Entertainment President) said in a recent Sony conference that the PS3 "will be expensive" and is not a household device. The controller isn't final too. With this, Microsoft can charge anything they want for the 360 cause now they got room to lower their losses and charge more than the heavily rumored 300 price tag and charge 360 or more.

I heard that one of the parts for the PS3 would be too expensive to mass produce, or something along those lines. I heard this from a guy at work, anybody know if theres any truth to this?

Today was the 2006 PlayStation Business Briefing and Ken Kutagari finally told everyone the obvious, the PS3 is coming in fall, before Thanksgiving. It's delayed because of Blu-Ray problems.
Also, Sony announced an online service ala Xbox Live called the PlayStation Network Platform. Also it's planned to be free like the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. Here's what the features to the PSNP.
Communication/Community:
Voice/Video chat Messaging Lobby/Matchmaking Score/Ranking Friend list/Avatar Game data upload/download
Commerce:
Shop (accessible from inside games) Content Download Micro Payment Subscription Entitlement (user access rights) management
Account:
User Registration Login ID/Handling of name issues
Next, Ken Kutaragi says its goal is to have a million units available at launch, so things like the 360's supplies won't happen.
The PS3 would use a Linux 60 Gig HDD. The show also said it could be used as a home server and be directly connected to the Internet, and be upgradeable. It will be needed to play games also, but they will package it with the PS3. Sony is avoiding the idea of premium vs core like the 360.
The PS3 will also support Hi-Definition for all PS1 and PS2 titles, full Blu-Ray support. Dunno if PS1 and 2 will be supported with the HDD.
On other Sony news, the PSP is getting an official PS1 Emulator for download.

No there ain't any real RPG's slated for it. Sony wants Microsofts FPS's, Microsoft wants Sony's RPG's. It might be too expensive for companies like Atlus and NIS to develop for right now. Microsoft has Mistwalker which is members of Square-Enix. It's too confusing to see what's going on right now, we need to wait a year for all consoles to come out to see what's going to what.

Funny ass quotes from The man himself (Aka Ken Kutaragi)
"Steve Jobs could slap an Apple logo on the PS3 and sell them for $2,000 each," he said. "We couldn't do that. That's the difference between the PlayStation brand and a computer brand, like Apple." He also expressed Sony's wish to make "PlayStation" a byword for "entertainment computer."
He further emphasized the PS3's PC-like abilities, stating there would be no problems running popular flavors of OS, including Linux, Windows, and Mac OS X: "to the PS3, an OS is like any other application." However, he added that "I think that perhaps you'll see a general purpose Cell [built-in] OS."
"More than Microsoft," he said, "Apple is closer to our vision [for the PS3]." Although SCEI and Apple are not in competition now, Kutaragi rules out nothing in the future. "
"But now, Apple has realized a successful e-Distribution program. It's about time we made our move, too."

It seems that the Sony brand is having a difficult time with the PS3. They wanted like 2 million at launch, well its 400K now for US and 100K in Japan. Europe and Australia are noe gonna have to wait til March now.
"If you asked me if Sony's strength in hardware was in decline, right now I guess I would have to say that might be true," Kutaragi said.
