I just finished Metroid prime, and I was wondering if Metriod Prime 2 is better than the first or if I should wait for MP3.

You should get it. While it may not be as good as the first (That's only my opinion, I prefer the storyline and environments of Prime 1), it's still excellent. The gameplay's improved, which is good, and so have the graphics. Besides, we have no real idea when Prime 3 is coming out, so you might as well get Prime 2.

I like Metroid Prime 2 a little more. The engine from the first has evolved a bit, allowing you to do more complex things such as use the Spider Ball and Boost Ball abilities together. I loved the new color codes, completion bars, and node navigation of the scan visor and logbook too. Prime 2 is a bit more symetrical and balanced, having to fight Dark Samus, an evil "You" throughout the game, and having mirrored light and dark worlds to explore. The feeling is a bit like Zelda: Link to the Past. I just beat Metroid Prime 1 and 2 on Hard Mode recently without following item completion guides to refresh my skill while I wait for 3.

The real question is why play only 1 and 3. Nothing is wrong with two and it's an ongoing storyline. It's foolish to think of not playing all three of them. We're waiting til at least summer for it and if I know Nintendo, I will just get delayed til fall so their lineup cal be stronger with their other games. So you have 9 months. Plenty of time for Metroid Prime 2.

Okay, I'm going to get it, it's only like $15.99 used now.

I got it today, I like it better the MP1. It seems to be more cinematic than the last one and I like the world a lot better. I probably will never use multi player because my friend may not like the controls and I don't think he even likes the Metroid series.

I think that MP2 is awesome, however I don't like the Spider Ball/Boost Jump idea especially when you're fighting Quadraxis. I'm still wondering how the heck do I get on his head.

That bugged me recently during my last playthrough. Remember the head module is vulnerable at that point. Bust him up a little bit more with super missiles and he'll be stunned for a short while. That's the only time you can use the spider ball to attach to him. Don't forget to scan each of his forms. There should be 5 entries total.
