The NY Times (Yes I read it once in a while) got an interview with Nintendo about the Revolution, with controller news, console news and disk news.
Controllers- Like the Xbox 360: all wireless
Console- its a horizontal console that is as thick as about a little more than an inch (Thats thin, like the slim PS2)
Disk- not only backwards compatible with the GCN disks, but uses DVD's as its medium format. (like the PS2, Xbox, and Xbox 360) Unknown though if it plays DVD movies.
It seems Nintendo is doing things right on this end, but we still need to see if these controllers and the online function are gonna be good. On another note, Nintendo also released a survey on its online software (non-public) and in it was and suggestions on online games, like Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros. So expect them to be online)
So its before E3 and this is the skinny on the Revolution:
1) Its prob gonna come out Mid 2006 before Sony
2) ATi's 'Hollywood' graphics chip and IBM's 'Broadway' core processor is powering this beast and Broadcom's supporting the Wi-Fi in it.
3) Built in Wi-Fi. Unknown on what that truely does(maybe wireless system link and wireless modems)
4) Backwards compatible with the GameCube
5) Uses DVD's as its format (unknown on playing movies)
6) Although the controllers' look is unknown, but its wireless, one use for the Wi-Fi
7) The console lays horizontally and is pretty damn thin and is supposed to look sexy like the SP and DS (I bet platium is gonna be the default color)
8) Connects to the DS wirelessly. This is one use of the console's built in Wi-Fi
9) Online capable, but how it's done is unknown. Square-Enix said something like connect to only people you personally know, but we have to wait for official news
10) Although Nintendo was worried on third party support, companies like their ideas, especially their first official supporter, Square-Enix. (Sega, EA, Konami, Capcom, Ubisoft, Silicon Knights, Natsume and especially Namco will most likely join in)
11) As for official games, I heard that Golden Sun was gonna be a Revolution RPG, but I dunno yet. We have to wait for the word from Nintendo, HAL Labs, Intelligent Systems, Retro Studios, and The Pokemon Company has in store.
If I forgot anything, fill me in. This was me doing this from the top of my mind.
