Game - Sonic Heroes
Console - Gamecube (coming soon on Playstation 2 & Xbox)
Developer - Sega (Sonicteam)
Players - Two Players
For over 12 years now, Sonic has claimed the throne to be one of the video game world’s favorite mascots. Sonic has even gained popularity in other forms of entertainment, such as TV shows, comics, merchandise, etc. It’s been quite a while since everyone’s favorite hedgehog had an all-new adventure, and in “Sonic Heroes”… Sonic is back in a brand-new adventure. And this time, he’s brought along a heap of friends.
Let me start off by saying… wow. This game is awesome. The gameplay is always fast, even if you’re not leading the pack as Sonic. The concept of playing as three characters at once is unique and makes the gameplay tremendously entertaining. The ability to choose from four teams adds to the fun, and the fact that each character has their own special abilities adds a nice touch. The sound is just as it’s always been, with familiar classic sounds effects and pop rock music that plays during each team’s theme (check the Sonic Heroes Soundtrack topic)! The controls take much practice to get used to, although they aren’t so bad that you’ll find yourself chucking the controller across the room.
The graphics for “Sonic Heroes” are done nicely. The levels are brilliant and vibrant, however… the characters aren’t as polished as they were in “Sonic Adventure DX: Director’s Cut”. Still very excellent graphics though. The camera is still poorly done, although the frame-rate has increased and now runs much more smoothly. Well, excluding multiplayer mode… which has a slow frame rate during race modes. Although this game isn’t extremely difficult, it’s still quite a challenge… especially when compared to other sonic games released lately. You won’t beat it without patience.
“Sonic Heroes” is everything a sonic could wish for, as it brings sonic back to his roots while introducing a new, innovative, and fun style of gameplay at the same time. I prayed for an all-new sonic game, God answered… and this game came to me.
