I got a PSP awhile ago not too long after I got Gurumin for PSP. It didn't do me much good without a memory card. But I just got a 2gb memory stick today . Though I did get a PSP game before I got a PSP, I mostly got one for the homebrew possibilities. Seeing Youtubes of FF7 being played full speed tempted me enough. Someone helped me with the whole firmware mess. It was a long and complicated thing. I still don't know how to set alot of things up with it either.
So I tried PS1 emulation next. Super Puzzle Fighter 2 Turbo has been sitting on my shelf with no purpose for the longest time since it's one of the few PS1 games that the PS2 isn't backwards compatible with. I made an ISO for it, ran the conversion tool, and all was well until copying. Copy errors kept popping up. But looking online, it's a common problem with some USB-b cables. I was using the cable that came with my USB Gamecube memory card came with. I also use it to recharge my camera and it works with the PSP for all but huge files (like bigger than 256mb). The game actually plays . I've tried the game on 2 different PS2s with no luck, but here it plays fine on this PSP. I doubt I'd travel with it much, but the portibility is nice.
Next I'm gonna experiment with how the memory card images are handled and try the conversion tools. Since The Tails Archive now has a PS1 section on the Game Save Page, I should be able to transfer save files from the PSP to my PS1 memory card and back. If not, then I could still backup my saves, but their format would be PSP-only. I'd feel much more accomplished if I could convert them back to PS1 and publish them online with the rest of the saves on the page, especially for all those other long RPGs I haven't even unsealed yet. So far these include Legend of Dragoon Wild Arms 2, Xenogears, and more games that I could have more time to play portably.
