The last IRC channel turned out to be a disaster between the downtimes and the spam the server would send globally. But we're trying it again. I don't know how to maintain an IRC room, but another Tails Fan is helping out with that. The new location is irc://chatcircuit.com/TailsArchive. You'll need an IRC program to enter. For FireFox, Chatzilla works well. To join, type the commands into the IRC program: /server irc.accessirc.net /join #TailsArchive

Alright, I'm gonna go ahead and introduce myself now... I'm the Tails fan he was talking about in his last post, and if you'l take the time to get to know me, i can be a powerful ally on the internet and I'm good with computers, but overall, I'm just a good friend, I look forward to seeing you all in the IRC room!
P.S: For anyone out there, you can call me Will so I don't get confused with other Tails fans!

My university won't allow me IRC for some reason.

Unfortunately I don't use IRC so I won't be able to talk there. But I sure would like to chat with other Tails fans some time. All they do in the Sonic chat rooms of DeviantART is Role play, and I don't have fun with that.

My university won't allow me IRC for some reason. Lemme guess... Port filtering of 6660-6669, or 6697 (for SSL)? I doubt that they would go through the effort of packet filtering, especially considering that it could, if done incorrectly, prevent way more than IRC. Edit: meant 6660-666 9, not 6660-6660

Know a workaround for this?

Hm... I don't know how they are limiting it, if it is port filtering. I don't know if it's just outbound connections on the port, or just blocking imbound connections. Try changing the port in your IRC program to something other than the default (Preferably somewhere between 49152-65535, but not anything under 1030).

You wouldn't happen to know how to do that in ChatZilla, would you?

Just checked the pref's within Chatzilla, it seems that you can only change the ports for DCC (which is a service used by IRC used to transfer files), but I haven't found anything th specifically change the outgoing port. I don't know if it uses the default 6667 or if it just lets the OS define one with a port of 0. What error messages do you get when you try to connect to any IRC network?

Hm... sounds like the server at the other end is at fault, the error usually happens when you specify the wrong port. Can you connect to other IRC networks (such as itc://irc.gamesurge.net ?)

Considering it's deregistered due to months of being empty, nope.

I'm not sure if this has been posted elsewhere, but XFox Prower has a link to an IRC Channel on the home page of the Tails Archive.
To access it, you will need to type into your IRC client:
/server irc.accessirc.net /join #TailsArchive
