Geocities gives more bandwidth than tripod I think, but the disk space is not as good. I think they get deleted if you don't log in enough too. www.geocities.comAngelfire is just like Geocities I think. www.angelfire.comTripod gives 20 mb space and 1 gb bandwidth, but the popups are much worse now than when I started with it. www.tripod.comFreewebs gives 100 mb free space (ad free!) and 100 mb bandwidth (that's pretty low). They also delete your site if you don't update it within 60 days. They are also known for having long periods of downtime even for paying members, but they are the easiest and pretty popular. www.freewebs.com.

Correction Freewebs Gives you 100Mb and 100Mb-500Mb bandwidth and is ad free but there is like a 5 page or 7 page limit which Sucks go look for yourself ! I would recommend Tripod if you ask me but coolfreepages.com seems ok if you don't mind getting forced to update your website ! They ofter 50+ Mb with pop-under ads !

I believe that 5 or 7 page limit on freewebs only applies when you are using their templates. Of course an advanced user making the site with HTML doesn't have that limitation in the slightest.

Umm freewebs is free Yes it is, but can you handle the fact that if you don't log in atleast once every 60 days your site is deleted without notice? The bandwidth is pretty low too, so I couldn't really use it. They give 100 mb monthly bandwidth. Tripod gives 1 gb (1024 mb) a month. I use over 400 mb of that.

So basicly you got 5 ads on your site which really slows down the website

What a terrible service they have become.

I like Geocities, because it is easy to use with HTML. I tried to use Tripod, but its direct-link protection pissed me off. I tried Freewebs, but it would not let my Google search form work. So now I have Geocities. Check out my site www.geocities.com/jupitertempest.
thanks, if you were talking about my site...

Heh, I found a perfect free one. BRPX.net, hosted by a guy named BRPXQZME. It's totally free, unlimited space/bandwidth, all the good stuff with no catches, for $0.00 a month, $0.00 a year, and $0.00 a century. NO ADS, take that Tripod, Angelfire, etc. www.brpx.net/~username domains, and the only catch is that he has to activate all CGIs you place so you don't mess up the server on accident -- pretty good precaution, really.

Geocities only has the slide ads on the side which isn't bad...

I need to make a correction... A low-skill website is probably the best on BRPX.NET, but larger ones I wouldn't recommend. Server goes down for a day or two at a time every few weeks, having to e-mail the guy to activate a script is quite lame, and you can't get him to activate an account for several days. So once again I'm looking for a webhost, with 5 days 'til Prower Power's launch. But I found a good-looking one called DigiBase: digibase.ns01.info:90/index.php

Take a look at how often those are up and down (not too bad maybe). And 9 out of 10 times I try to FTP into it, the connection is refused. But maybe it's just my FTP program.

Um...in 3 days, if I don't get word back from Digibase, I need a week of emergency hosting... Which isn't good. HELP ME!!!
Nevermind, my site, prowerpower.webhostingpal.com/or simply Prower Power, was launched yesterday, 9th December, 2003. I'm hosted on Webhostingpal.com. You get a subdomain URL, 50 megs of space, 4.88 gigs of bandwidth, FTP, no ads! Seems great so far...but who can tell?

I guess you have to get lucky and know someone who runs a server that will give you space.

Freewebs is great for beginners because they make it so simple to make a site. Once you understand html, you can upgrade your site's account and use html. I find the "update your page within 60 days or we'll delete it" policy very lame, but I guess it gets rid of the old sites that gather dust. I have no problem with that policy, because I'm actvively updating my sites (currently, I only have one (CBT). The complete lack of pop-ups is great, which is a plus.
Freewebs still has it's weaknessed though, everything that comes free does.

And my advice is still not reliable. BRPXQZME Network, now at www.brpxqzme.net, offers webhosting again, after being down. I haven't gotten any word back from the guy at DigiBase. And Webhostingpal.com turned its tail and just now cancelled my account, redirecting all URLs on its site to a paid wbehosting company as well. But I've gotten hosted on TechSonic.net, like XFox. So try that out.

There's been some problems on it lately (even my Digibase account went down, which explains why I had to remove my Dancing Tails pic from my signature). Aside from that, I've been learning XHTML and have been updating my pages with it.

Before my site moved, I was going to check T35 since I signed up with them awhile ago. But I was a day too late and saw they sent an email saying that they want active members in their community and removed everything in my account. I'm not sure if that means you have some (unknown) days to login before that or if you must be active in their forums. The FAQ and TOS said nothing about that (they usually never do).
