Here's a good idea, I bet most if not all of you have seen and liked some anime, but what's your favorite? And what's your favorite types of anime? Here's some of mine:
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya: Interesting story, excellent characters, great animation and a kickass boxset. It's one of the most popular animes of recent time, it's so worth checking it out.
Full Metal Panic Series: I started with Fumoffu, the second, offbeat season and loved it that I watched the first season right after my first trip to Connecticon 2 years ago. Now that the third season, The Second Raid is finished, I really want word on something new.
Azumanga Daioh: This is something else. The comic strips become animated. It's basically what it is, a pieced together animated comic strip. These great characters really color up the black and white the manga originally sported.
Cardcaptor Sakura: Yea I like it. Believe it or not, I really got into the (extremely) edited version from Kids WB, and again at the same ConnectiCon, I bought the two unedited boxsets. Series was a lot of fun to watch.... all 21 DVD's worth.
Midori Day's: Anime fans know I'm making a trend now. This series is short, but great. I only wish it was as long as the manga's storyline, the anime cut 2 secondary characters as well as half the plot.
Ghost Stories: Holy crap. When ADV localized this anime, they literally threw out the Japanese script about these kids hunting ghosts and slapped a slapstick comedy script over it and It was excellent! Lets give an example: there's this nerdy character that in the Japanese version, was very serious and a paranormal expert. ADV version- Jew.
Anything(so far I watched) by Studio Ghibli: So far I watched Kiki's Delivery Service, Nausicaa, Castle in the Sky and Howl's Moving Castle. All of them are excellent. Fantastic animation, fantastic scripting and fantastic localization by Walt Disney Studios. Yea, Disney brung them here, and boy did they get a Disney sized budget! No anime has more suberb dubbing than these movies. That's because they use real actors. Kristen Dunst as Kiki and Phil Hartman as Jiji? Disney doesn't localize much, but they are the best as you can see. AS of late, I've bben trying to collect all of them, but cheap. Most I got from GameStop for cheap, and I really don't wanna pay the full 30 for each of them.
Theae aren't all of them though, I also like Chrno Crusade, School Rumble, PaniPoni Dash, Chobits, MAgical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi, UFO Ultramaiden Valkyrie, Hellsing(Ultimate Series)
Now one thing's straight. I know it's basically illegal in anime fans' eyes, by I always watch them dubbed in English. I prefer it that way. Most of the series I watch are the high school girl genre, also sometimes labeled as Bishojo (Beautiful Girl in Japanese). But mostly it's just the comedy that makes me keep watching. Even though here and there, there's an anime that I just get into and just buy, like the Thirs: Girl with the Blue Eye, which is a Post-Apocalyptic style action anime.
